A wedding is a beautiful milestone that marks the beginning of an exciting new journey with you and your partner. Before saying I do, you get the enjoyable (or perhaps stressful) task of planning your special day and deciding how you want to celebrate it together.

As a professional wedding singer who has had the delight of performing for many happy couples, this blog article is here to offer guidance on why you should consider hiring a wedding singer as part of your special day!

While securing key vendors like your venue, photographer, and finding the dress (if you’re wearing one!) is often a top priority, many couples realise the importance of live music later in the planning process—sometimes missing out on their favorite performers!

After all, the moments you’ll NEED music throughout your day are:

• Before the ceremony as people arrive

• During the ceremony (walking down the aisle, signing the register, exiting as a couple!)

• Drinks reception

• Wedding breakfast

• Evening entertainment

So, what makes live music so special?

A wedding singer can truly elevate the atmosphere by:

Re-creating Core Memories

•  By providing a personalised touch to reflect both of your unique styles, re-capturing the songs that brought you both together in the first place!

Creating Seamless Ambience

• We can adapt our sets to create a seamless ambience throughout the day, from your ceremony, to your wedding reception, wedding breakfast to evening entertainment!

Maintaining Energy & Atmosphere

• The right songs at the right moments can bring an added level of energy and excitement, making the celebration feel more alive and vibrant (especially once the champagnes hit!)

Personal & Unforgettable

• Live music creates a level of intimate entertainment to your special day, making your wedding personal and unforgettable.

So, why Kay Acoustic? Let’s break down some FAQ’s!

  1. Professionalism & Experience:

A little about me, I received my First-Class BA (Hons) in Music & Music Technology in 2013 from Derby University. Since this time I have been featured on BBC Introducing, BBC Radio Leicester, BBC Radio Derby, and have performed for Channel 4’s Stargazing Live event. Being offered the opportunity to perform on all of these platforms is something I’ll always treasure and be truly grateful for, and I only hope to keep adding to the list as I am currently working on original material to release! Eek, exciting!

With years of performance experience under my belt, whether that be at weddings, corporate events, army barracks, theatres, and international venues; I have always taken pride in taking the hassle out of everything for you! After all, you have so many other things to plan! My moral values are to always maintain professionalism, reliability, and a truly personal touch to every performance, and I am truly proud to say I have only ever received 5 star feedback!

Professional Vocal Coach

Singing is my one true passion and outside of performing, I am also a professional vocal coach. Bringing out the confidence in singers of all ages (including a paralympic gold medalist!) is something that really brings me joy and I hope to see them out on the performance circuit soon!

Who do I perform with?

When creating Kay’s Acoustic (previously known as Cosmos Acoustic) it was important to me to handpick the guitarists I work with, as I was on the search for super talented performers that I gel with, who put as much passion into their music as I do. Thankfully, the calibre of musicians I’ve met over the years means I can offer you an array of options from guitar, piano, a trio all the way up to a live band and know we will deliver each and every time!

The guitarists I work with have played with the likes of The Drifters, for the Royal Shakespeare Company, on Broadway and West End productions as well as for BBC Radio 1 Live lounge sessions! So when choosing Kay’s Acoustic as your wedding entertainment you are guaranteed a flawless, intimate and memorable performance for both you and your guests!

Live music vs playlist:

When it comes to setting the mood for your wedding day, the choice between live music and a playlist can make a huge difference in the overall atmosphere and experience. While a playlist might seem like a convenient and cost-effective option, it often lacks the emotional depth and flexibility that live music provides.

A live singer can adapt the setlist to match the energy of the room, adjust the tempo to suit the mood, and create a more intimate connection with you and your guests.

From perfectly timing the walk down the aisle, to seamlessly transitioning between parts of the day, live music adds a human touch that a playlist simply can’t replicate. Plus, there’s no risk of awkward silences between songs or technical issues with internet connections-just the authentic, heartfelt sounds of live music that make every moment feel more personal and memorable.

Feature

Live Music

Playlist

Personalisation

Tailored to your taste; an acoustic duo can adjust the setlist based on the mood and crowd’s reaction.

Limited to pre-selected songs; lacks real-time adjustments.

Emotional Impact

Live performances create a deeper emotional connection and memorable atmosphere.

Pre-recorded music may lack the emotional depth of live vocals and instruments.

Energy and Atmosphere

A live performer can engage with the audience, enhancing the vibe and energy of the event.

A playlist can feel impersonal and static without live interaction.

Timing and Flow

Musicians can time key moments perfectly, such as fading out during the ceremony entrance or exit, and ensure smooth transitions throughout the day (ceremony, drinks reception, wedding breakfast, evening reception etc)

Playlists follow a fixed order; songs may not fade or transition smoothly, requiring manual adjustments.

Flexibility

A duo can adapt to the flow of the event, extending or adjusting songs as needed.

Fixed order of songs; requires manual changes if adjustments are needed.

Memorability

Live music creates unique, one-of-a-kind moments that guests will remember.

A playlist may not leave a lasting impression.

Sound Quality

Professional musicians provide a rich, dynamic sound tailored to the venue’s acoustics.

Sound quality depends on the audio equipment and can feel sharp/flat.

Guest Engagement

Live performers can interact with guests, encouraging dancing and participation.

No personal interaction; less likely to engage the crowd.

Backup Options

Musicians can adjust on the spot.

Technical issues like connection problems or equipment failure can disrupt the music.
